Become a Trustee

We are recruiting for Trustees to join our Board.

“Being part of a feminist organisation that is committed to promoting equality and diversity and working alongside women that share the same values is an incredibly rewarding experience” Laura Hughes Chair 2022-2025

In Scotland, all charities are overseen by a group of volunteers called Trustees. Trustees oversee the strategic direction of the charity rather than being involved in its day-to-day operations, and are a very important part of keeping charities safe and accountable to the people they serve.

At the heart of our vision is a belief that a Shetland free from sexual violence is a Shetland where everyone can live safely, equally and with dignity. We recognise that violence is both a cause and consequence of inequality, and our work is rooted in an intersectional feminist approach that challenges the systems and structures that enable harm.

We are seeking women who share our commitment to advancing the rights of women and girls, tackling racism, championing accessibility and disability rights, supporting LGBTI+ inclusion, protecting reproductive rights, and upholding human rights for all.

We believe that a strong team includes a wide variety of perspectives, backgrounds, identities, skills, and life experiences, and we particularly welcome applications from women who are currently under-represented in governance roles, including women of colour, disabled women, lesbian, bisexual and queer women, older and younger women, and women from a range of socio-economic, cultural and faith backgrounds.   This post is open to women only under the provisions of Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010.

We value commitment and shared values as much as qualifications and experience, and all Trustees will receive induction, training, and support to assist them with the role. Although this is an unpaid role, we do cover expenses.

Whether you are an experienced trustee or considering your first Board role, we encourage you to reach out for an informal chat and explore how you could help shape the future of our organisation.
