International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on 8 March, celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

IWD has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organisation specific. Each year on or around 8 March, we do something different at the Compass Centre to celebrate the wonderfulness of women!

2026

For IWD in 2026 staff members shared some of their favourite feminist book recommendations from our staff, because we believe that when we share women’s stories and give visibility to their experiences and perspectives, support for women grows and everyone benefits.

All of these books can be found in our library at The Compass Centre. Email us if you’re interested in hearing more about our library or borrowing a book  contact@compasscentre.org
