Advocacy

Advocacy

We help to support you at the Compass Centre in your decision on whether to report sexual violence to the police:

  • We can answer your questions and provide you with information about the criminal justice system and processes.
  • Should you so choose, we can support you navigating the criminal justice system.
  • We can provide regular check-ins, information and activities based around your support needs.
  • If you do report, we can support you throughout your case and for up to 3 months after it concludes.
  • After this point, if you feel you want some more support, we can assist you in referring to our Support & Counselling Service, or another organisation.

Our Advocacy & Support Worker can support you throughout this process by answering your questions, providing information, being a supportive presence during statements or court proceedings, liaising with the police, Crown Office and/or Procurator Fiscal Service, and helping you to prepare for next steps. Sometimes we can also support witnesses, family and loved ones.

If you decide you don’t want to make a report to police, your Advocacy & Support worker can explore other options with you. We can also offer practical support with day-to-day life. Additionally, your Advocacy & Support Worker can work with you to recover from the violence that was done to you – offering emotional support, practical support, and check-ins based on your individual needs.
